About Kupa Zimbabwe

Kupa is a hyper-local marketplace for Zimbabwe. Shops sell their end-of-day surplus food at a discount, and neighbours give away food, clothes and household items. One app, one account, one map.

Who we are

Every evening, bakeries, restaurants and supermarkets across Zimbabwe are left with good food they cannot sell the next day. At the same time, many households are stretching every dollar. Kupa connects the two.

Kupa is Shona for “to give”. We are a small Zimbabwean team building for the way people here actually live: metered mobile data, mid-range Android phones, EcoCash, and cash on collection as a normal way to pay. Pages are light, images are small, and the app keeps working when the network drops.

We started in Harare and are open to anyone in Zimbabwe. Our aim is simple: less good food in the bin, more money left in people’s pockets, and neighbours who look out for each other.

What we stand for

Every bag collected is food that did not end up in the bin.

Help neighbours

What you no longer need can be exactly what someone nearby is looking for.

Trust first

Shops are verified before they sell, and givers confirm their ID before their first giveaway.

Pay your way

Questions people ask

What is Kupa?

Kupa is a Zimbabwean app and website with two parts. Store Deals sells Surprise Bags of end-of-day surplus food from local shops, bakeries and restaurants at a discount. Giveaways lets neighbours give away, or cheaply sell, food, clothes and household items.

What does the name Kupa mean?

Kupa is Shona for "to give". That is the whole idea: shops give good food a second chance instead of throwing it away, and neighbours give what they no longer need to someone who does.

Where does Kupa work?

Kupa is built for Zimbabwe and started in Harare. Anyone in Zimbabwe can sign up, browse the map and post a giveaway. Store Deals grow city by city as shops join.

How do I pay for a Surprise Bag?

Pay online with EcoCash or card, or reserve now and pay cash when you collect. Every order gets a pickup code that you show at the counter during the collection window.

Are giveaways really free?

Most are free. Some givers ask a small price to cover their costs, and the listing always shows it. Kupa takes no commission on giveaways.

How does Kupa keep people safe?

Shops are checked before they can sell: they send an owner ID and a registration certificate or operating licence. Givers confirm their ID before their first giveaway. Every order and claim has its own chat, and anything that looks wrong can be reported from the page.

I run a food business. How do I sell on Kupa?

Create a business account, send your verification documents and list your first Surprise Bag. Listing is free. Kupa earns a small commission only on bags paid online, and pays your balance to EcoCash, OneMoney or your bank.

Is there a Kupa app?

Yes. The Kupa Android app works on mid-range phones and keeps what you last loaded on screen when the network drops. You can also use kupa.co.zw in any browser.
